This Cookie Policy should be read together with SIMBIM's Privacy Policy, which explains how SIMBIM processes personal data more generally.
Types of cookies we use
Strictly necessary cookies
These cookies or storage technologies are required for the website or application to work properly. They may be used for page navigation, secure login, session management, fraud prevention, security controls, form submission, cookie-consent storage, remembering privacy choices and language settings requested by the user. These cookies do not require consent where they are strictly necessary to provide the website or a service expressly requested by the user.
Preference and functionality cookies
These cookies help the website remember optional choices and provide enhanced functionality, such as language preference, interface preferences, saved settings or optional form convenience features. Some preference cookies may be necessary if they are required to provide a service requested by the user. Others may require consent depending on their purpose and behaviour.
Analytics and performance cookies
SIMBIM does not use third-party analytics. SIMBIM measures the audience of its own website anonymously (see "Cookie inventory"): pages and webinars viewed, time on page, referring website, device and browser type and country, reported only as statistics. This measurement is always on and does not require consent, because it is used only for anonymous statistics for SIMBIM, is not combined with other data, is not shared and does not track you on other websites. If other analytics are added later, they must not load before valid consent unless legal counsel confirms a valid exemption.
Marketing and advertising cookies
At the time of this Cookie Policy, SIMBIM does not currently use marketing, advertising, remarketing, pixel or conversion-tracking cookies on the website. If these tools are added later, they must not load before valid consent.
Support, chat and communication cookies
The website offers an optional live chat operated by Zendesk. Its cookies and local storage are set only after you choose to start a chat, and they support a service you have expressly requested. No Zendesk cookie or script is present on your device before you open the chat. See "Zendesk live chat (messaging widget)" below.
Third-party content cookies
Recorded webinars in the Virtual Room are played with Vimeo's video player, embedded in the page. The player loads when a recorded webinar page shows you the video. SIMBIM loads it in Vimeo's do-not-track mode. According to Vimeo, in that mode the player sets no new cookies except a small number of security cookies that protect the player against bots and abuse (see "Cookie inventory"); Vimeo also states that your browser may still send Vimeo cookies stored from earlier visits to Vimeo.
Where a recorded webinar has no image uploaded by SIMBIM, its preview image is loaded from Vimeo's servers, which, as with any web request, receive your IP address and technical data about the request. This processing is governed by Vimeo's own privacy policy.
Some Insights articles contain YouTube videos. Nothing is loaded from YouTube until you click a video to play it. The video is then loaded from YouTube's privacy-enhanced domain (youtube-nocookie.com); from that moment YouTube (Google) receives your IP address and technical data and may set cookies or use similar storage on your device, under Google's own privacy policy.
If further embedded third-party content is added later, it must not set cookies before consent unless configured in a lawful privacy-enhanced mode or loaded only after user action.
Zendesk live chat (messaging widget)
SIMBIM offers an optional live chat operated by Zendesk. The chat is click-to-load: the Zendesk messaging script, iframe, cookies and local storage are created only after you click the chat button and initiate a conversation. Until you do so, no Zendesk script, cookie or network request exists on your device.
Once you start a chat, Zendesk sets functional third-party cookies and local-storage entries whose purpose is to operate the chat, identify your conversation and allow it to continue across pages and return visits. They are used to deliver a service you have expressly requested and are not used for analytics, profiling or advertising.
You can avoid these cookies entirely by not opening the chat, and you can delete them at any time from your browser. Zendesk's role as a processor, its location and the transfer safeguards are described in the Privacy Policy.
Cookies by ownership
First-party cookies: Cookies set directly by SIMBIM websites or domains. These may support security, sessions, preferences, forms, consent records and website functionality.
Third-party cookies: Cookies set by external providers, such as analytics services, chat tools, payment providers, CRM tools, video platforms, software vendors, support tools or marketing platforms.
At the time of this Cookie Policy, the third-party cookies used on the website are those of the optional Zendesk live chat, set only after you start a chat, and the security cookies of Vimeo's video player on recorded-webinar pages (see "Third-party content cookies"), and those YouTube sets after you click to play a video in an Insights article. No third-party analytics or advertising cookies are used. If further third-party cookies are added or discovered later, they will be disclosed and blocked until consent where required.
Cookies by duration
Session cookies: Temporary and deleted when you close your browser or end the session.
Persistent cookies: Remain on your device for a defined period or until you delete them. They may be used to remember preferences, consent choices or analytics identifiers.
SIMBIM aims not to keep cookie consent choices for more than 24 months. The current recommended consent duration is 12 months. If the purposes, providers or cookie configuration change materially, SIMBIM may ask users to make a new cookie choice earlier.
Where consent is stored in localStorage, expiry is enforced by the application by comparing the stored timestamp and consent version against the configured maximum age and current policy version.
Legal basis for cookies
Strictly necessary cookies: Used because they are required to provide the website or an online service expressly requested by the user.
Anonymous audience measurement: Used without consent because it only produces anonymous statistics for SIMBIM, is not combined with other data, is not shared and does not follow you on other websites (see "Analytics and performance cookies").
Other non-essential cookies: None are currently used. If any are added, they will be used only where the user has given consent.
Where cookies involve personal data, SIMBIM processes that data according to the applicable legal basis described in the Privacy Policy, including consent, legitimate interest, contract performance or legal obligation, depending on the purpose.
Cookie consent
When you first visit the website, SIMBIM displays a cookie notice. If the website later uses cookies or similar technologies that require consent, the notice becomes a consent panel.
Where a full consent banner is shown, users may:
- accept every non-essential cookie;
- reject all non-essential cookies;
- configure cookies by purpose or category;
- access more information through this Cookie Policy.
The option to reject cookies is presented at the same level and with comparable visibility as the option to accept cookies. Cookies that require consent are not activated until the user has given consent. Consent must be freely given, specific, informed, unambiguous, based on a clear affirmative action, and withdrawable as easily as it was given. SIMBIM does not use pre-ticked boxes for non-essential cookies.
SIMBIM uses strictly necessary first-party storage and anonymous audience measurement. The measurement does not require consent because it only produces anonymous statistics for SIMBIM, is not combined with other data, is not shared and does not follow you on other websites. No category currently needs your consent, so the cookie notice is for information only; you can review the settings at any time with the Cookie settings link. The optional Zendesk live chat sets its cookies only after you start a chat (see "Zendesk live chat (messaging widget)").
How to change or withdraw consent
No category currently needs your consent, so there is no consent to withdraw.
Use the link, available permanently in the website footer, to review what SIMBIM uses. If a category that needs consent is added later, you will be able to change or withdraw your choice there as easily as you gave it.
You can also delete or block cookies through your browser settings. Browser-level settings may affect the functionality of this and other websites. Withdrawing consent does not affect the lawfulness of processing carried out before consent was withdrawn.
Browser controls
Most browsers allow users to manage cookies, including:
- viewing cookies;
- deleting cookies;
- blocking cookies;
- blocking third-party cookies;
- clearing site data;
- setting privacy preferences.
The exact method depends on the browser. Users should consult their browser's help section for specific instructions. If you block all cookies, some SIMBIM website functions, portal features, login functions, forms, support tools or checkout/payment flows may not work correctly.
Cookie inventory
The exact cookies and similar technologies used by SIMBIM may change when website functions, customer portal functions, authentication, forms, analytics, support tools or payment workflows are added or removed.
At the time of this Cookie Policy, SIMBIM does not use third-party analytics, advertising, remarketing, pixel tracking or third-party marketing cookies on this website. SIMBIM uses first-party cookies or browser storage for website operation, consent management, session continuity, user-requested preferences, security, portal functionality and anonymous audience measurement. The only third-party cookies are those of the optional Zendesk live chat, set only after you start a chat, and the security cookies of Vimeo's video player on recorded-webinar pages, and those YouTube sets after you click to play a video in an Insights article.
| Category | Provider | Name / technology | Purpose | Duration | Consent |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Strictly necessary | SIMBIM (first-party) | simbim_cookie_consent (localStorage) | Stores the user's cookie choice so the notice does not appear on every visit. | 12 months (expiry enforced in code) | No |
| Preferences | SIMBIM (first-party) | simbim.lang (website) and simbim.portal.locale (portal) (localStorage) | Stores the language you chose (website and portal). | Until you clear your browser data | No (user-requested preference) |
| Anonymous audience measurement (always on) | SIMBIM (first-party) | simbim.vr.anon and simbim.vr.session (sessionStorage) | A random visit code so that each visit is counted once. Used only to produce anonymous statistics about the website (pages, webinars, time on page, referring website, device, country). Never linked to you, even if you sign in during the visit. | Until the browser tab is closed | Not required: anonymous statistics only |
| Support / chat (functional) | Zendesk (third-party) | Zendesk messaging widget cookies and local storage | Operates the chat you started and lets the conversation continue across pages and return visits. Not used for analytics or advertising. | Set by Zendesk | Not requested: set only after you choose to start a chat, a service you requested |
| Third-party content (video player) | Vimeo (third-party) | player_clearance, cf_clearance, _cf_bm and _cfuvid (names as listed by Vimeo) | Security cookies that Vimeo's player sets in do-not-track mode to protect the player against bots and abuse. Your browser may also send Vimeo cookies stored from earlier visits to Vimeo. | Set by Vimeo (according to Vimeo, from the browser session up to 1 year) | Not requested: set only by the player of a recorded webinar you open |
| Third-party content (video) | YouTube / Google (third-party) | YouTube cookies and similar storage | Set only after you click to play a video in an Insights article; used by YouTube under Google's privacy policy. | Set by YouTube | Loaded only after you click to play |
| Strictly necessary (interface state) | SIMBIM (first-party) | simbim.vr.resume (sessionStorage) | Remembers where you were so that the page can continue where you left off (for example, the position in a webinar after you sign in). | Until the browser tab is closed | No (needed for the function you are using) |
| Strictly necessary | SIMBIM customer portal (first-party) | Authentication session token (sb-<project>-auth-token, localStorage, only when signed in) | Keeps the user securely logged in to the customer portal or authenticated area. | Until you sign out or the session expires | No |
The cookies/storage listed above are the items currently used by the deployed SIMBIM website. Apart from the anonymous audience measurement and the video-player cookies listed above, no analytics, marketing or payment/checkout cookies are used. If any are added, this inventory will be updated and, where required, consent will be obtained before activation.
Cookies used in the SIMBIM website application
SIMBIM's current website application may use first-party cookies or browser storage technologies for:
- application routing and interface state;
- secure login and session handling, where login is enabled;
- form submissions;
- customer account features, where enabled;
- licence or proposal workflows;
- support requests;
- portal access;
- integration with third-party tools, where applicable.
The deployed website does not load third-party analytics, marketing, tracking or remarketing scripts. SIMBIM's own anonymous audience measurement runs without consent, as described in "Analytics and performance cookies". The Zendesk chat script loads only after you choose to start a chat. If a third-party script that needs consent is added later, it will be blocked until consent is granted; if it cannot be blocked before consent, it will not be deployed until a compliant configuration is available.
Payment and vendor platforms
SIMBIM may link to or integrate with external payment providers, vendor portals, software licensing platforms, subscription portals, training platforms or support systems. Those platforms may use their own cookies to authenticate users, secure transactions, prevent fraud, process payments, issue or manage licences, deliver support or manage training access.
Where SIMBIM controls the integration, SIMBIM will apply appropriate consent controls where required. Where users leave SIMBIM's website, the third-party provider's own cookie and privacy policies apply.
International transfers
Some cookie providers, analytics services, software vendors, payment providers, cloud platforms, communication tools or support tools may process data outside the European Economic Area. Where cookies or similar technologies involve international transfers of personal data, SIMBIM will rely on appropriate safeguards required by applicable law, such as adequacy decisions, Standard Contractual Clauses, contractual commitments or other lawful transfer mechanisms. Users should also consult the privacy policies of the relevant third-party providers.
Updates to this Cookie Policy
SIMBIM may update this Cookie Policy when:
- cookie types change;
- providers change;
- website functionality changes;
- analytics or marketing tools are added or removed;
- consent-management settings change;
- legal requirements or regulatory guidance change;
- SIMBIM updates its Privacy Policy or website platform.
If the purposes of cookies or the third parties using cookies change materially, SIMBIM will update the Cookie Policy and, where required, ask users to make a new cookie choice.
