Our ISO 19650 BIM Policy reflects a simple principle: the right information should reach the right people, in the right state, at the right time, for the right decision. We apply ISO 19650 as a practical framework for organising, reviewing, approving, publishing, and preserving project information across the asset delivery lifecycle.
Our commitment
SIMBIM is committed to delivering BIM and information management services in alignment with ISO 19650 principles and with our wider integrated management approach. Our CDE implementation manual defines this work as an operational system designed to align with ISO 19650 clauses and to support precision, traceability, and compliance objectives. It is integrated with SIMBIM's quality and information security logic, and applies to consultants, information managers, and project delivery personnel responsible for setting up or operating Common Data Environments on ISO 19650-based projects.
Our operating model
SIMBIM uses a hybrid CDE strategy built around Bluebeam Studio and Microsoft SharePoint. In this model, Bluebeam supports the early lifecycle stages, especially Work in Progress and Shared, where teams develop, mark up, and coordinate information collaboratively. SharePoint supports the later stages, especially Published and Archive, where deliverables are governed through metadata, approvals, structured storage, and auditability. This dual-platform model is used because it combines collaborative review capability with the stronger governance, traceability, and lifecycle control needed for ISO 19650-aligned delivery when implemented through controlled procedures.
Lifecycle control and traceability
Every information container must move through controlled lifecycle states. Work in Progress is for internal development. Shared is for coordination and structured review. Published is for approved information released for use. Archive is for retained record information that is no longer active but must remain protected and traceable. SIMBIM's procedures require deliberate transitions between these stages, supported by naming rules, metadata, review records, approval logic, and preservation of audit trails. Files are not meant to drift informally between stages. They are meant to be governed.
Review, approval, and naming discipline
Our ISO 19650 approach requires consistent naming conventions, metadata tagging, role-based permissions, approval checkpoints, and clear responsibility for review and acceptance. Shared-stage reviews in Bluebeam are carried out through Studio Sessions so that comments, markups, reviewers, and timestamps are captured in an auditable format. Published-stage release in SharePoint requires completion of review, application of naming convention, metadata confirmation, and approval before information becomes generally accessible. This reduces ambiguity, protects information quality, and supports reliable exchange across project teams.
Governance, security, and assurance
Information management is only credible when governance is visible. For that reason, SIMBIM's CDE model includes access control, audit logging, risk treatment, nonconformity management, and KPI-based monitoring. Metadata quality, unauthorised access attempts, and recurring nonconformities are monitored and reviewed. Corrective action is required where controls fail or information quality falls below target. This is how BIM information management becomes auditable, secure, and operationally dependable rather than merely aspirational.
Public statement
SIMBIM applies ISO 19650 as a working method, not a badge. We design Common Data Environments and information workflows to make project information structured, reviewable, secure, and usable across the full delivery cycle.
