E04 - INTEGRATED ENERGY EVALUATION (II)

Part 1: Energy evaluation in Archicad In this lesson you will finish learning how to transform your BIM model into a BEM model in a practical way, and you will see how to generate reports with the calculation results. Part 2: Energy evaluation in Archicad In this lesson you will learn how to implement systems in your BEM model and you will get to know the most common errors and warnings when working with integrated energy evaluation in Archicad.

E04 - INTEGRATED ENERGY EVALUATION (II)

About this course

The course "E04 – Integrated Energy Evaluation (II)" continues the specialisation in integrated energy evaluation with Archicad and focuses on the practical part of the BEM model and on obtaining results. Students will learn to improve the envelope through materials and composite structures, to export the energy model data, to generate and configure the energy performance report, and to define the building's systems. They will also learn to interpret the errors and warnings that Archicad displays before the calculation.

Course details

This course is aimed at architects, engineers and technicians who use Archicad and wish to complete the integrated energy evaluation workflow, from the BIM model to the BEM model and its results. It is recommended to have taken the first part of the specialisation, where the climate data, thermal blocks and energy model input data are prepared. The first lesson reviews design strategies related to construction materials and composite structures, creates and applies composites with better insulation to the envelope, updates the zones and the energy model, examines the export formats (gbXML, PHPP, VIP-Energy and baseline), and generates and configures the energy performance report, chapter by chapter. The second lesson defines the heating, cooling, ventilation and renewable generation systems, assigns them to the thermal blocks, exports and imports systems between projects, and reviews the errors that prevent calculation and the warnings that allow it to continue, ending with a comparison between the basic energy evaluation and EcoDesigner STAR. As explained in the course, some of the functions shown (export to VIP-Energy, advanced systems settings, renewable energies, detailed reports and comparison with the reference building) require the EcoDesigner STAR licence, which the training describes as included in the Archicad licence maintenance. With the basic licence, a simplified version of these functions is available.

Learning goals

  • Understand how the physical properties of materials and intersection priority influence the energy simulation.
  • Create composite structures with better insulation and apply them to the model's envelope.
  • Update the zones and the energy model after modifying the envelope.
  • Distinguish the energy model export formats: gbXML, PHPP, VIP-Energy and baseline.
  • Generate and configure the energy performance report and interpret its chapters.
  • Define heating, cooling, ventilation and renewable generation systems and assign them to the thermal blocks.
  • Identify the errors that prevent calculation and the warnings that allow it to continue, and know how to resolve them.
  • Learn the differences between Archicad's basic energy evaluation and EcoDesigner STAR.
