Course
E201 - CREATING OBJECTS IN ARCHICAD - PART I
Creating objects in Archicad Part I - I In this session you will discover the different ways of working with objects in Archicad. You will learn to manage libraries, making the most of existing objects. Creating objects in Archicad Part I - I In this second part you will see how to search for and import objects from external sources. You will also begin to learn how to create your own objects using Archicad tools.

About this course
The course "E201 – Creating Objects in Archicad – Part I" presents a progressive strategy for obtaining customised objects in Archicad without writing GDL code. Over the course of two sessions, the first levels of this strategy are covered: finding objects in the library, modifying their default parameters and saving them as new objects, downloading objects from external repositories, importing them from different formats, and customising components of parametric objects. The second session ends with a first introduction to saving 2D and 3D objects and editing their symbol in plan.
Course details
This course is aimed at Archicad users who already handle modelling tools and wish to obtain objects tailored to their projects, whether by locating them in the library, adapting them or creating them from existing elements. The first session explains the organisation of Archicad libraries (embedded library and linked libraries), searching for objects using keywords, the object's internal interface, and the procedure for modifying an object's default parameters and saving it as a new object with its own identifier. The second session presents download platforms (BIMcomponents, BIMobject and other repositories), import workflows according to the file format, customisation of parametric object components (leaves, handles, knobs, curtain wall panels, window accessories, steps) and an introduction to saving objects from the 2D and 3D windows, including editing the 2D symbol. The course does not cover GDL programming or complete object modelling, which are addressed in the second part and in more advanced training courses.
Learning goals
- Distinguish the embedded library from linked libraries and their use in local projects and Teamwork.
- Locate objects in the Archicad library making use of the search tool's keywords.
- Access an object's internal interface and modify its default parameters.
- Save a modified object as a new object with its own identifier to facilitate its quantification.
- Download objects from BIMcomponents, BIMobject and other external repositories.
- Apply the appropriate import workflow according to the source file format.
- Customise components of parametric objects such as leaves, handles, knobs and panels.
- Save 2D and 3D elements as objects and edit their symbol in plan.
