E701 - 3D IMMERSION WITH TWINMOTION

3D Immersion with Twinmotion Part I In this session you will discover the workflow with Twinmotion from Archicad, to obtain realistic images and videos from the BIM model. Twinmotion is a real-time 3D immersion software that gives architects and engineers new ways of communicating their work. In this first part you will see an introduction to Twinmotion, how to prepare your model and how synchronisation with Archicad works. 3D Immersion with Twinmotion Part II In this second part you will see the environment settings and learn to work with materials and objects. 3D Immersion with Twinmotion Part III In this third part you will discover how to bring your project to life and how to prepare and export the final images.

E701 - 3D IMMERSION WITH TWINMOTION

About this course

The course "E701 – 3D Immersion with Twinmotion" presents Twinmotion as a real-time visualisation tool that complements Archicad. Students will learn to prepare the BIM model, synchronise it with Twinmotion using the Datasmith plugin and build the scene with terrain, weather, vegetation, materials, objects, lights and people. The course ends with the preparation and export of images, videos and presentations.

Course details

This course is aimed at Archicad users, architects, engineers and students who wish to communicate their projects with realistic images and videos without leaving the BIM model. No prior rendering knowledge is required: Twinmotion's logic is based on selecting, dragging and adjusting using sliders. The first part presents the interface, navigation and quality settings of Twinmotion, model preparation in Archicad, installation of the Datasmith plugin, import via Direct Link with automatic synchronisation, project localisation and the download of urban context from OpenStreetMap. The second part covers sculptable and paintable terrain, weather and ocean, individual vegetation and Vegetation Paint, saved images, materials and the user library, objects and lights. The third part adds decals, people, animals and vehicle and pedestrian paths, per-image settings, the creation of videos using keyframes, and the export of images, videos and presentations. To follow the course you need to have Archicad and an installation of Twinmotion, which is obtained through Epic Games and managed from the Epic Games Launcher. The course explains that Twinmotion makes intensive use of the graphics card and requires a more powerful machine than Archicad usually needs. The session is delivered with Twinmotion 2022.2 and Archicad 25/26; the Datasmith plugin is noted as compatible with Archicad 23 to 26 at the time of recording.

Learning goals

  • Understand what Twinmotion is and its role as a real-time visualisation complement to Archicad.
  • Navigate the Twinmotion interface and configure quality and saving settings.
  • Prepare the Archicad model and synchronise it with Twinmotion using the Datasmith plugin and Direct Link.
  • Configure the localisation, urban context, terrain and weather of the scene.
  • Apply vegetation, materials, objects and lights from the Twinmotion library.
  • Animate the scene with people, animals and vehicle and pedestrian paths.
  • Create images with custom settings and videos using keyframes.
  • Export images, videos and presentations from the Twinmotion exporter.
