Baumit Tools in Archicad: application examples in SATE systems, plinth and ceramic finish

Webinar in SpanishRecorded on 18 February 2021Length 45:47Graphisoft

The second session in the collaboration between SIMBIM and Baumit, devoted to bringing SATE systems into the Archicad model. Martina D'Andrea reviews how composites are created in Archicad and what the Baumit Tools add-on brings to the programme; María Dolores Sánchez sets out the plinth solution and the ceramic system; and José Luis Muñoz resolves both solutions live on a housing model, from editing the composite through to running the plinth around the whole perimeter.

This is the second session in the collaboration between SIMBIM and Baumit on the application of Baumit Tools in Archicad. It opens with a review of the previous session: Archicad composites, its building materials list and the option of creating your own materials and composites. Two routes for bringing a SATE system into the model are then set out: building it layer by layer with Archicad materials, or working with the Baumit Tools add-on, which adds its own menu to the programme. Martina D'Andrea demonstrates the add-on on screen: the manufacturer's materials list alongside generic materials, opening an already configured system, editing its layers, and the panels for anchor design, properties and thermal calculation. She then inserts the system into the project, draws a wall, assigns the composite to it and checks the result in plan and in 3D. She closes by summarising what the tool offers the architect: the manufacturer's materials catalogue inside the working environment, indicative reports, anchor calculation and Archicad's quantity schedules. María Dolores Sánchez, product manager at Baumit, covers the construction side and describes the plinth solution as the system's adaptation where the façade meets the ground: bituminous adhesive mortar, an insulation board specific to that zone, a reinforcement layer with mesh, a protective mortar and the finish. She runs through the buried, above-pavement, flush and recessed variants, and the recommendation to resolve drainage with gravel rather than banking topsoil against the system. She then presents the ceramic system, whose discontinuous cladding replaces the primer and the render, with built examples in Ribadesella and in the Basque Country. José Luis Muñoz takes both solutions into Archicad on a housing model that already has the SATE system applied. He duplicates and renames the composite, replaces the adhesive mortar, changes the insulation for a plinth board, inserts the protective mortar layer, draws the wall, adjusts heights and levels to follow the slope of the ground and transfers the parameters to the rest of the wall run. He then creates the Ceramic System from the systems list and changes the finish on one wall face. The session closes with a question-and-answer round. The recording retains several connection and screen-sharing problems that briefly interrupt the presentation.

  • How composites are created in Archicad from the programme's building materials list.
  • What the Baumit Tools add-on brings once it is installed inside Archicad.
  • How to open an already configured system in the add-on and edit, reorder or delete its layers.
  • How to insert a system into the project, assign it to a wall and check the result in plan and in 3D.
  • Which panels the add-on offers for anchor design, properties and thermal calculation.
  • How the plinth solution is approached where the façade meets the ground.
  • Which layers make up the plinth solution and in what order they are arranged.
  • Why drainage is recommended to be resolved with a gravel layer rather than banking topsoil against the system.
  • What distinguishes the ceramic system from the system with a render finish.
  • How to duplicate and rename an Archicad composite to turn it into the plinth solution.
  • How to adjust the heights and levels of the plinth wall to follow the slope of the ground.
  • How to create the Ceramic System and change the ceramic finish on a wall face in the model.
