How to Transfer Markups to Another Document?
Reading time: 3 min.
Introduction
In some workflows, you need to carry markups made on one PDF over to a different file. Revu lets you do this in several ways, including:
Exporting the markups from the Markups panel and then importing them.
Copying the markups from the original document and pasting them in their exact position in the destination document.
Using the Batch Slip Sheet feature (only available in the Complete edition).
The methods described below are based on Export/Import from the Markup List and on Paste in Place.
The Batch Slip Sheet feature follows a different approach that isn't covered here.
Before transferring markups, make sure that:
The source and destination documents have the same page dimensions.
The page numbering matches between both files.
If scale-dependent markups have been created (measurements, scaled sketches, etc.), the page scales also match.
Method 1: Export and import from the Markup List
The Markup List panel stores the information for each markup, including its position on the page.
This information can be exported to an external file and then imported into another document.
Export from the original document
Open the PDF that contains the markups.
Go to the Markup List.
From the panel menu, choose the option equivalent to Export Markups.
Save the generated file in .bax format (Bluebeam Annotations).
Import into the destination document
Open the document you want to bring the markups into.
Go to the Markup List.
From the same menu, select Import Markups.
Open the .bax file you created earlier.
The markups will appear correctly placed on their corresponding pages.
Method 2: Copy and Paste in Place
This procedure is useful when working with documents that have few pages, since it requires copying and pasting for each page.
Copy markups from the original document
Open the source PDF.
Go to the Markup List.
Turn on the column that shows the page index to see where each markup is located.
Apply a filter by page number to isolate only the markups on that page.
Select all the filtered markups (Ctrl+A) and copy them (Ctrl+C).
Alternatively, you can select all the markups directly on the page using the selection tool and copy them.
Paste into the destination document
Open the destination PDF at the corresponding page.
Select Edit > Paste in Place.
The markups will appear in the exact position they were in on the original document.
Repeat the process for each page you need to move.
