How to Update My Work Environment Profile with the New Version of Archicad?
Reading time: 3 min.
Archicad is a constantly evolving BIM platform. With every new version, improvements, tools and features are added that enrich the architectural, structural and MEP modelling experience. This dynamism makes Archicad a powerful, versatile tool for design and construction professionals.
What Is a Work Environment Profile in Archicad?
When you install Archicad, the programme offers three default work environment profiles, designed for different types of users. However, every professional has specific needs, which is why Archicad lets you create custom profiles. These profiles can be exported and imported easily, which is useful when changing computer or job.
Why Is It Not Advisable to Reuse Old Profiles?
Although it is possible to import profiles from earlier versions into a new Archicad installation, this practice can cause problems. New features and tools introduced in the latest version may end up hidden or disabled if the old profile has not been adapted to them. This limits how much you can benefit from the improvements and can affect productivity.
Recommendation: Create a New Profile from Scratch
To ensure an optimal experience and make the most of each version's new features, it is recommended to set up a new work environment profile from scratch. Although this may seem like extra work, it actually:
-
Avoids configuration conflicts.
-
Lets you discover and adopt new tools.
-
Improves the software's stability and performance.
